Look luxe without the huge price tag
Whether you’re looking to update your home according to the season, or want the space to feel a little more polished, there are a few simple changes you can make to your interior to achieve a luxe look without a big outlay.
Elevating your interior style isn’t about spending a lot of money on decor or buying large pieces of furniture. It’s about thoughtfully editing your personal collection of treasures and memories into a curated display that speaks to who you are, your personality and your style.
Bathroom review
One of the hardest (and most expensive) rooms to update can be the bathroom. However, sprucing up this space needn’t be costly. Take note of what vanity top, windowsill and shelving space you might have spare in the room, and think about what items you own that might fit into the space and make it feel a little more ‘done’ and more your style. This can be anything from a few fab plants to a carefully considered selection of candles, ornaments and shells that the kids may have collected from the beach.

One of the quickest and easiest ways to create a sense of luxe is to layer items.
Layer, layer, layer
One of the quickest and easiest ways to create a sense of luxe in the bathroom is to layer items.
You can use this trick all around the bathroom. Stacking a soap dish on top of a folded face towel or on a concrete trivet, placing several items on a towel on the bath shelf, and even simply placing one towel on a stool by the bath tub. How gorgeous does this pot plant look!

Bespoke Vanities
Vanities are looking more like living room furniture than traditional sinks these days. “Timber front vanities are still popular and help create warmth in a bathroom,” says Duffy, adding “wall-hung vanities are a more modern choice than a floor standing alternative and they create the illusion of space.”

Free standing tub
There is something so magical about a freestanding tub. It is more than an aesthetic; it’s a thing of luxury, even romance. Finding the right shape tub is important for what is usually a small space. A soft curved tub can bring softness to an angular room, where as a more boxy or sleek tub can complement pastels or a bathroom with striking features.

Architectural and design trends 2015- 2016
Recent years have seen an integration of external space with internal space, especially here in South Africa with our fantastic climate says Dave Nemeth. Continuing in this direction, the bathroom will become a far more important space and in many cases, where possibly even open up onto private areas of the garden. Outdoor showers have already gained popularity and we will now see indoor baths and showers with large windows and doors that almost open up completely to the outside elements. In a similar fashion, bedrooms will have more open plan bathrooms where the bath or shower is an actual feature rather than a purely functional element that needs to be hidden away. The bedroom / bathroom becomes an integrated area with the focus on relaxation and well being, almost like a health spa. Check out the website for more great ideas.

Bathroom photography ideas
Bathrooms can be a little tricky to photograph, however it is one thing a buyer really wants to see a picture of. A great bathroom can really entice a buyer.
See below some bathroom tips to ensure great photographs:
- Please make sure you have thoroughly cleaned the shower screen, bathtub, vanity and mirrors
- Remove any clutter eg shampoo bottles, soap, razors, kids toys and sponges
- Add some freshly laundered towels
- How about a small vase of flowers or a pretty bottle to the vanity top
- No bath mats please
- Remove any laundry baskets and scales from the floor
- Imagine that you are walking into a brand new bathroom, except for the towels that's all we really want to see in the bathroom
