I love pretty things, they really can make a home

I love pretty things, they really can make a home. Something as simple as a vase of fresh flowers or a nice fragrant candle burning. These things really make a home feel homely! Try and have the candles burning and some fresh flowers for your open homes.

Mould and mildew tend to creep into almost every home by the end of a long cold winter

Mould and mildew tend to creep into almost every home by the end of a long cold winter. The kitchen is no exception and generally it's the heart of the family. See below some spring cleaning suggestions
  • Wash all the walls over with some soapy scented water
  • Scrub all the kitchen cupboards with a no abrasive product
  • Give the floors and any rugs a good vacuum and wash
  • Time to clean out the dreaded pantry, discard all of the out dated food
  • Re organise the pantry, I love organised cupboards
  • Give the dishwasher a clean out
  • Wipe out the interiors of the kitchen cupboards
  • Clean the windows and window coverings
  • Now for the most hated task of all YES the oven. You don't want your buyers seeing the last 3 months worth of baked dinners now do you
  • De clutter the benches and give them a good scrub
  • If you are feeling really energetic scrub all of your appliances and most used items
  • Once you have achieved all of the above, treat yourself  to a bottle of champagne and a bunch of flowers to brighten up the kitchen
  • Owh and don't forget to wash the light fittings

The yard is usually the first thing that the prospective buyers will see when the arrive at an open for inspection or private viewing. An over grown garden is not a great first  impression.

Front up

It may sound strange but first impressions for a house really do last. Buyers will drive past without you even knowing

Its imparative that
  • Your garden is well groomed
  • The front door is in good working order
  • Cobwebs are no where to be seen
I am sure that you have said that first impressions count!

Outdoors this winter

If you're anything like me the backyard pergola gets neglected in the winter time. Buyers love the outdoor entertaining areas, so its important that they can imagine themselves entertaining under that pergola, cooking the BBQ and having fun with family and friends.

  • Generally the pavers get a build up of moss and dirt. Get the hose and scrubbing brush out and give them a good clean with a cleaning solution
  • Do the same with the outdoor furniture and the BBQ
  • Discard the dead hanging plants and dreary potted ones and replace with some vibrant new colourful plants or flowers.
  • For some 'WOW' pot some colourful flowers and put them on the table
  •  Add some colourful cushions to the existing seating
  • Now you're ready to bring your buyers through

Electic style

I just love this look by Oz furniture. The collection is called the OZ Arthouse.
A blend of eclectic styles and finishes.
This is a sophisticated retro look reminiscent of old school style with a sharp edge.
A style where you can place your personal stamp.

Windows

You will not believe this, but by cleaning your windows is the easiest way to transform the look of your home.
  •  Clean windows will let the sunshine in to light up your home, don't forget to open the blinds and curtains when at all possible
  •  Clean windows can bring the outside in making your home feel larger and definitely more inviting
  • I agree cleaning windows is really the pits, however I will guarantee the final result will be well worth it

Flooring

I really hate walking into a home to be greeted with filthy carpet or dusty floors with dog hairs and fur balls. It can instantly put a buyer off

  • Firstly give the carpet a good vacuum and If you can spot clean the stained areas, however I would recommend that you hire a professional to steam clean all the carpets if they are heavily stained.
  •  Air rugs
  • Vacuum and freshen up with a carpet deodoriser
  • Spot clean them if necessary.

For the timber floors
  •  Give them a good vacuum then wash with a timber floor wash and polish if need be
  •  Add some rugs in the heavy traffic areas, this helps prevent dirt being trodden into the floor

Curtains and blinds

  • Curtains and blinds can really make or break your room. Nothing worse than dirty smelly curtains and blinds.
  •  Treat curtains very carefully launder them on the delicate cycle of the machine, or if they are too big for you to handle take them to the laundromat.
  • Add some lavender oil to the washing cycle... instant spring smell
  • As for the blinds, most fabrics can be spot cleaned with a mild soapy water (always test spot first)
  • You will be amazed at how fresh your room will feel.
  •  Don't forget to let as much natural sunlight in as possible.
  •  Buyers love light filled rooms, let there be light when at all possible

Bed linen

Whilst we frequently wash our bed linen throughout the year, its the doonas, pillows and cushions that we seem to forget about. Some can be laundered in your washing machine, however for the bigger items take them to your local laundromat and let them do all the hard work for you. Always check the washing instructions first

I say there is nothing like jumping into a freshly laundered bed! Ow yer love it!

                                                           So fresh
