Luxe for less

Lay it out
Feeling a little bored with your current furniture or room layout? Try evaluating what space you have available and rearranging the furniture; consider how different pieces may fit together in different ways, and don’t be restricted by what furniture happens to be in the room. You may find that a cute stool that has been hiding in a bedroom makes a character-filled side table and conversation starter in the living room. Try arranging your furniture around the flow of natural light, or around indoor/outdoor flow, to create a harmonious space. Even better, centre your living room furniture in such a way that encourages conversation.
Surface art
Drinks carts, sideboards, shelving and coffee tables are all wonderful opportunities to make a space feel styled. Arrange your drinks cart with pretty bottles and glassware that are complementary, perhaps with a few fun cocktail accessories thrown in to complete the picture.

Cheerful Kitchens

Mould and mildew tend to creep into almost every home by the end of a long cold winter. The kitchen is no exception and generally it's the heart of the family. See below some spring cleaning suggestions
  • Wash all the walls over with some soapy scented water
  • Scrub all the kitchen cupboards with a no abrasive product
  • Give the floors and any rugs a good vacuum and wash
  • Time to clean out the dreaded pantry, discard all of the out dated food
  • Re organise the pantry, I love organised cupboards
  • Give the dishwasher a clean out
  • Wipe out the interiors of the kitchen cupboards
  • Clean the windows and window coverings
  • Now for the most hated task of all YES the oven. You don't want your buyers seeing the last 3 months worth of baked dinners now do you
  • De clutter the benches and give them a good scrub
  • If you are feeling really energetic scrub all of your appliances and most used items
  • Once you have achieved all of the above, treat yourself  to a bottle of champagne and a bunch of flowers to brighten up the kitchen
  • Oh and don't forget to wash the light fittings

Framless showers

Thank goodness as we wave goodbye shower curtains! Beautiful frameless showers may have once signalled ‘high end’, but are becoming far more commonplace. These sleek wonders can fit into any design scheme and will stand the test of time. Even if you don’t have a separate shower, a single pane of glass is a more functional, cleaner option than the clutter of a sliding door or shower curtain.

Flowers: The easy way to freshen up your home.

We’re always looking for simple ways to freshen up homes. Plants are fail safe in making your home feel light and bright. They bring a natural beauty into the home. They create texture, a focal point, and have been proven to lower blood pressure and heart rate related to stress.
But not everyone has a green thumb.
Flowers are the answer! A simple bunch can lift the spirits and bring a fresh feeling into a room. While we love an incredible arrangement, we’re also big fans of picking up a bunch of dahlias at the local fruit and veg store and enjoying them in all their glory.
Holly Hipwell of The Flower Drum collaborated with Freedom recently to share her know-how on which vase to use for which flower. We always fumble when it comes to arranging them ourselves, and put the wrong flowers in the wrong vases and wonder why it’s not visually working.

Occasional WOW!

A brightly coloured chair will always make a statement. If your living spaces are lacking that wow factor invest in some new occasional chairs. They will brighten up your room instantly. They will also add that spark of colour to your photographs and the best thing is when you sell you can take them with you to your new home.

Paint Statement indeed!

Paint is the safest first step in adding some personality to your home. The mantra “it’s only paint” is all you need to start your venture. Choose a wall and take a leap of faith. If you’re a little more adventurous, make your paint work for you in a more creative way; a swirl, large stripe, pattern or writing could be your next step.  If you are not feeling that adventurous add a large clock and there you go an instant statement.
